Comparing and Contrasting Groups (Venn Diagram Activity)
Working Together (Brainstorm classroom rules. Draw pictures of classroom with and without rules.)
Making Good Choices (Children work with a partner to solve four problems that a citizen may have in real life.)
Living in a Community (Draw and label four places found in students' communities.)
Different Kinds of Communities (Urban, rural, and suburban are taught through riddles and describing pictures.)
Using a Calendar to be a Good Citizen (Students examine an August calendar that is packed with chores for good citizens to do.)
Being a Citizen (Students read three signs that promote laws and also analyze a poem about rules.)
Keeping in Touch (Students write a friendly letter and address an envelope to someone they have never met before. Six websites are given as suggestions for possible pen pal classes.)
Helping Hands Project (Students make a craft out of their handprint to honor a staff member at their school that helps them.)
Building a Community (Students work in teams to build and organize a new community based on what they have learned in this unit.)
