The Common Core suggested reading list asks students to read classic literature. Reading Peter Pan, Little Women, or the works of Charles Dickens can be intimidating as well as challenging for many students.
Common Core Classic Literature Passages provides UNIQUE practice. These four passage excerpts were written using the same dialects, syntax, and vocabulary as classic literature from the 1800s. The passages help students practice reading and comprehending literature that has the same type of classic writing style as what will be likely seen on the Common Core Reading exam. These short passages help students BUILD the skills that they need to tackle text that was written long ago. It is designed to be a bridge between modern day books and classic literature.
Close reading and multiple choice questions are both provided.
These are great for addressing Common Core Reading Standard RL.10 Text Complexity, Common Core Language Standard L.3 Registers and Dialects, plus additional standards.
