PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This Close Reading Unit includes text dependence questions for each passage. They are all primary and secondary sources from Virginia Colony. {All passages are documents from Huntington Library that I have formatted to be 1 page for Close Reading lessons}

Social Studies: Cooperation & Conflict with Native Americans & Settlers

This product can be used as a whole class or small group assignment.

There are 5 reading passages. Lexile level range 1170-1310.
#1- Native Americans and The Virginia Colony
#2- Powhatan Speaks to John Smith 1609
#3- The Starving Time
#4- The War of 1622
#5- The Barbarous Massacre 1622

Each passage includes mini-performace task which I have modeled after the SBAC (Smarter Balance) practice test. The goal of the performance task is to facilitate authentic discussion about the topic of Cooperation and Conflict between Native Americans & English settlers at Virginia Colony & experience with writing and supporting answers with evidence from the text.
