This Collaborative Grouping Rubric is a great tool for use with Common Core. It provides for individual and whole group expectations. When used with heterogeneous groups, this rubric promotes student regulation of behavior, active engagement of every student, and student self-evaluation. The Task component is generic enough to be used for just about any activity desired.
The task that you assign is the "what" of the activity. The collaborative grouping rubric provides the "how". When paired with a task of almost any type, this rubric allows for the students to take ownership of their learning.
To use, simply teach the rubric to your class, assign heterogeneous groups, and add water. Explain that accurate self-assessment is critical.
*The rectangles are for student names.
**The little circles are for the teacher to mark in the event a "reminder" must be given.
Personal experience- I use this rubric in my classes 2-3 times a week. It allows me to facilitate and monitor learning while the students complete a task. They love that they get to work in "groups". My students that generally are not actively engaged are prompted by their peers to participate. I have had GREAT success with this tool and will continue to use with fidelity. On the note of COMPASS evaluations, this fulfills so many aspects of the evaluation rubric that, as a teacher, it would be crazy not to use it!
