According to the new common core standards (listed below) students should be able to compare and contrast a written piece of text with a performed piece of the same text. This can come in the form of a novel and a movie, or just a poem/fable with a short video. You can even use my Fable lesson the Fox and the Grapes with this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=teIj7fak6eU
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RL.6.7 Compare and contrast the experience of reading a story, drama, or poem to listening to or viewing an audio, video, or live version of the text, including contrasting what they “see” and “hear” when reading the text to what they perceive when they listen or watch.
