This resource can be used when teaching the new ELA Literature standards on RL.4.5. For this activity, the teacher ideally would have taught this information already, or the teacher can introduce this as a notebook activity as introducing information. This is a resource I used in my classroom. I set up 3 stations around the room. One station had books of poems for them to read. Another station had laminated copies of dramas. The last station had examples of text written in prose. They had 5-10 minutes at each station to get acquainted with the different types of text, then we used this activity to check for understanding of different text types.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy RL.4.5 – Explain major differences between poems, drama, and prose, and refer to the structural elements of poems (e.g., verse, rhythm, meter) and drama (e.g., casts of characters, settings, descriptions, dialogue, stage directions) when writing or speaking about a text.
