This 16~page unit explores the world of economics with a Valentine's Day twist! Vocabulary words are emphasized. Lessons compare and contrast goods and services, wants and needs, and producers and consumers. The story A New Coat for Anna is analyzed, and students create their own coat, comparing and contrasting it to Anna's, learning the concept of bartering. The culminating activity has students play Monopoly, then create their own "Heartopoly" game to demonstrate their understanding of the economic concepts taught. Created for second grade, but entirely appropriate for high-flying first graders and third graders. A great addition to common core plans. Bring economics to life in a meaningful, heart-filled way!
