Frustrated with inservices continually breaking down standards for common core, giving organization strategies for writing, discussing the Common Core rubrics, but never showing HOW to teach your students to write?
The Write Format is a unit designed to teach your students HOW to write an essay. Unlike many other writing programs which show how to organize and outline, our program walks the students through how to Construct an essay. From the introductory paragraph with a fabulous lead and topic sentence, through the supporting paragraphs in the body, and finalizing the essay with a closing paragraph. Every step is given an EDI format lesson, and a step by step process. With the techniques mastered, students are then able to write an essay from any given text or prompt.
The Write Format Lessons are sequential. Each lesson builds upon the previous lessons. Further, the lesson, designed for Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI), are all approximately 60 minutes in length. These thirteen lessons could be broken up into two 30 minute sessions as well. Each class is different; you may find your group of students need more or less time for particular lessons. You may also save classroom time by assigning the independent practice for homework.
60 minutes of class time = 13 days.
30 minutes of class time = 26 days.
