Fractions and Decimals- Sometimes (well most of the time) fraction circles alone simply don't cut it. Kids need to play with fractions- a lot. A deep conceptual understanding of these concepts is essential for student success in elementary school and beyond. I have found that activities combining fraction manipultives and number lines help to solidify conceptual understanding of fractions and decimals.
All number lines are measured to fit the fraction manipulatives. This way, your students can directly compare the fraction manipulatives on a number line, bridging the gap between the physical model of a fraction manipulative and ordering fractions on a numberline. This activity can be taught while introducing fractions and can be used throughout a fraction and decimal unit.
Print the fractions on card stock. The fractions come in color and in black and white. The color fractions can be printed on heavy card stock and laminated for classroom use. Print the black and white fractions on card stock to pass out to students. This set can be a personal fraction set- for use in class or at home.
The number lines can be printed and passed out for individual student use or printed on card stock and laminated. If you have transparent white boards, these are great inserts!
