This was product was created to help guide students in the process of understanding HOW to conduct a close reading of a text. It would be an excellent group work/ Literacy Center idea to get students both reading and discussing a text. It helps the student look at specific word choices within a text and analyze their meaning and impact. It also helps students understand why those words helped craft the text into the unique passage they are reading and analyzing, and why this is important.
The product itself includes:
a teacher guide which is a complete lesson with scaffolding techniques and differentiation methods for ELL's and struggling students, suggestions for an extension activity, 7 pages of printables for the students and a detailed and thorough analysis of the Gettysburg Address for the teacher.
The lesson uses visuals, audio, and writing and can be used for 6-12 grade. The higher grade levels go much deeper into the speech and can take more time with it. It is a beautiful speech that is an excellent example of the power of words and the impact that they can make when they are well chosen. Great for students to SEE this!
