This lesson plan gives three detailed pages of directions including photographs to show how the lesson unfolds. The objective of the lesson is to help intermediate students begin to tackle more challenging reading material and to process it at a deeper level. As we know, the Common Core is asking us to push our students toward deeper understanding--and this lesson can help you do that.

This particular lesson includes a poem to use, the reproducibles needed, and the step-by-step instructions--but what is KEY is that this lesson can be adapted to use with whatever resources you wish...other poems, pages from novels, articles from magazines or anything else! This lesson was explained in a blog post, and I wanted to make it available for others as well. If you don't like the poem included--use any other material!

I hope you enjoy it and that your students do as well.
