The goal of this assignment is to introduce and make student familiar with the importance of Federalist Paper #10 in the ratification of the Constitution. This lesson uses media, close reading and a written component.
This lesson can last 2 days or one block period
1. Handout Federalist 10 worksheet
2. Watch video explanation of Federalist 10 by Keith Hughes at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNN95-ICOMI. The purpose of showing this video is to work on students listening skills while filling in the blanks for the notes
3. Next break student into 6-8 groups and have the class jigsaw the close reading part of this assignment. Have students check with instructor for correct translation of the Federalist 10. If the translation is correct have student present their translations on a piece of construction paper with marker, big enough for all student to see their responses.
4. Have the students complete the written prompt on the last page of the worksheet. Using evidence from the video and close reading of Federalist 10
