These are 2 different types of games for practicing addition and subtraction. They are done using penguin clipart. The games are “Roll and Write” and “Race to the Penguins”. For addition, the students are practicing adding 3 numbers. There is a version of each game for addition which use 3 dice each. For subtraction, there are 2 versions of each game (total of 4 subtraction games). The games are the same except for the numbers. This allows for differentiating the numbers according to a student’s skill level. Each game needs dice with numbers on them. For one version, the dice need numbers 1-6 and 7-12. For the more advanced version, you need dice with numbers 4-9 and numbers 15-20. You can use small cubes and write numbers on them or put stickers over other dice you may have. There is a Center Card for each game and the Game Boards.
The Roll and Write Game can be played alone or with a partner, sharing the same gameboard and seeing which number “wins”- makes it to the top first. The students write the number of the sum or difference in the box, not just color in a box.
For Race to the Penguins, you will need to tape the gameboards together. Both sides of the gameboard should have the same numbers. There is an A and a B side for each set. I suggest you laminate these and have the children use vis-à-vis markers (or another erasable marker). ‘
These games are similar to ones I have posted with Thanksgiving clipart, Christmas themed clipart , Sports clipart and Polar Animals. The numbers are the same as in the Polar Animals set. My students love these games so I am making them each month to go with the Math skills we are working on.
