This Common Core State Standards packet is based totally on CCSS1.0A.D.7. which is:
Mathematics » Work with addition and subtraction equations. » 7
Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false. For example, which of the following equations are true and which are false? 6 = 6, 7 = 8 – 1, 5 + 2 = 2 + 5, 4 + 1 = 5 + 2.
This entire posting has practice problems and assessments for CCSS1.0A.D.7. These practice sheets can be copied, displayed on a white/Promethean Board, put in a small center for students to complete, or placed in a child’s math journal. There is a month’s listing of daily practice items for review and extension prior to giving the assessments. There are two assessments to administer to determine each student’s achievement of this standard after the use of the practice problems. It is always the best to begin at the conceptual level with manipulatives and practice prior to beginning the work with the algorithm in the practice problems. Once the students have the concept, these practice problems and assessments would be the next step. Use the language of the problems and practice these type problems in small guided math groups or in full group instruction
While this is based on a first grade CCSS, it can also be used for kindergarten for enrichment and for second grade as further practice and remediation.
