February Writing unit: This common core writing unit teaches kids to begin to use mentor (paired) texts and gives you the option to teach them to cite an article when writing an informative or opinion piece. There are 4 prompts and week long activities to go with each prompt. All three text types are addressed in this February themed unit: Informative (2 cycles), Narrative (one cycle), and Opinion (one cycle)

The unit includes:

Text type posters featuring parts of an opinion piece, informative piece, and narrative piece

Four prompts:
Groundhogs/Groundhog's Day
Valentine's Day
The Presidents (Lincoln/Washington)
African American History (Jackie Robinson)

Each prompt includes:
2 mentor/paired texts for each prompt
Questions for each prompt
Note taking pages
Graphic organizer (2 options for differentiation)
Writing master
Homework cover sheets (various choices if you choose to send for homework)
