This document contains K-12 vertically articulated charts that break each element of the opinion and argument writing standards from Common Core into charts with yes and no boxes.
This tool can be used by teachers or with teachers in examining student writing to build a shared understanding about the standards' expectations.
One way to use these charts is to print multiple copies or revise the document by grade level. Teachers can then read samples of student writing and code the writing to the standard and indicate yes or no about the presence of the standard based on evidence in the writing sample. Participants should then share and discuss findings.
This is a great exercise for grade levels, across grade levels and to calibrate writing expectations within and across grade levels. Enjoy!
