Here is a powerpoint used to help parents understand the shifts of the Common Core and suggest ways parents could support their children and teachers at home.
The National PTA has free Home-School Connection Newsletters on their website by grade level. We printed these off and shared also with parents.
We also had samples of TRC books from Reading 3D and DORF passages at EOY benchmarks so parents could visually see what their Kindergartener or fifth grader had to read indpendently and fluently in May.
I am not attaching the videos of our students mentioned in the last slide, but that was a powerful tool for helping parents see the shifts of problem-solving, collaboartion, critical thinking, and integration that emphasizes student-student interaction versus teacher-students interaction.
