Common Core Standardized Testing will require students to complete performance tasks. This printable document packet will engage teachers and students through a menu of options to develop critical thinking skills and design of original products up to a level four depth of knowledge. Consider offering this menu packet to students after a unit of study. Another option is to assign this packet to students as a quarter and/or semester review. Perhaps you may choose to challenge students with little or no direct instruction to develop their independent and collaborative critical thinking skills for a new standard or objective.
The first page provides students with a menu of product ideas for students to create. We often ask students to design a brochure, game, presentation, or trading cards.
However, page 2 offers a grading rubric to assist students and teachers with criteria for success and credit possible. The rubric encourages students to meet proficiency through three levels of success: full credit, half credit, or no credit. Below the rubric offers students and teachers ideas for during class student action verbs at a depth of knowledge level 4. These verbs help students work with their textbooks, literature, and/or internet resources. Depth of knowledge level 4 activities direct students how to proceed with their chosen product. For students and teachers that are accustomed to Bloom's Taxonomy, connections listed help them reach a level 4 depth of knowledge with their product.
Page 3 provides students with during class action verbs at a depth of knowledge level 3. Depth of knowledge level 3 activities are the results of the action verbs helping students further with their product. Depth of knowledge level 3 to Bloom's Taxonomy connections shares common feedback from teachers to students to improve their product.
Page 4 is a Higher-Level RTI Form. This depth of knowledge level 3 activity scaffolds any standard, objective, problem, question, and/or measurable skill essential to be proficient for students struggling with their product.
Page 5 is a Common Core Note-Taking Template. This depth of knowledge level 4 activity provides a graphic organizer to help students reach the highest level of understanding for any concept as they conduct research tasks that involve generating questions and testing hypotheses by drawing evidence from multiple sources.
When students turn in their menu (page 1), teachers can quickly highlight page 2 and/or 3 along with student products to differentiate for students that do not reach the highest depth of knowledge with their product. Teachers will find feedback to offer students quickly and students can improve the quality of their product from the highlighted feedback.
