THIS ONE IS HUGE! This Power Point is a five full days of World War II neatly packaged with a "bow" for you and your students.

Description of Materials: Day 1-5:Lessons

Utilizing this PowerPoint entitled, World War II students will discover the causes of World War II, the German victories at the start of the war due to “blitzkrieg”, the United States involvement, D-Day and Hitler’s mistake, V-E Day, and the Holocaust. To do this, students will discover the meaning of key vocabulary terms in the context as well as the events that occurred. This presentation is filled with maps, photographs, political cartoons, propaganda posters, and even catchy sounds.

Purchase the matching guided notes and students will be able to focus in to the key details that are important to understand this time period. These notes have been created with all students in mind. For struggling students a word bank has been provided. For students who struggle writing text, I have also included ample space. Lines in the graphic organizers allow students to create work that is neater and more easily read.

At the end of each lesson I have included a daily “Brain Check.” This is a great way for students to use their informational writing skills as they are processing and applying what they have learned. A “Brain Check” consists of the lesson’s essential question and a word bank. Students are expected to utilize the notes they completed in class to create an illustration and a paragraph(s) about their lesson. Their picture and writing should “answer” the essential question of the day.

Attached for grading purposes, I have included the teacher’s key for all guided notes pages as well a handy rubric for evaluating students’ “Brain Checks.” One rubric is enlarged for projecting to explain it to students and the other is for duplication. It has two rubrics per page. This rubric is useful because it makes grading accurate, fast, and effective.

Alternate Uses for these Materials:

The materials included in this World War II instructional packet could easily be utilized to assess students’ knowledge of World War II or as review for upcoming State Social Studies Assessments. Designed and created for 5th grade students, it could also be used to support struggling students in middle and high school.

Other uses for it would be using it as practice for the challenging vocabulary that students must comprehend in order to understand the content. Examples some of challenging vocabulary include: appeasement, isolationism, fascism, communism, nationalism, militarism, and natural resources.

When you purchase its matching Guided Notes and "Brain Check" Activities you will have it all! It has guided notes, filled with interpretation of primary sources, content laden, integrates writing and is differentiated. Complete with teacher's keys and rubrics lesson planning should be a breeze!
