As we approach a new standardized test with higher standards than ever before, this graphic organizer can help your students begin to organize their problem solving process through the use of this handout.
In addition, with calculator inactive and gridded response sections appearing on more tests, it is imperative that our students can move from one form of problem representation to another quickly and easily.
This graphic organizer helps students through word problems by walking them through important items such as: starting values, rates of changes, identifying the function type, defining variables, writing the functions, a data table of values for the problem, a graphical representation of the problem, the algebraic reasoning, and finally the solution description.
My students have begun using this in our daily reviews of old material and I have already seen increased confidence in their ability to pull apart a word problem and successfully find the answer. It is my hopes that you can see the same success as your being your first year of testing with the new Common Core Standards!
