This project focuses on how to gain deep understanding about ratios and rate tables by building a house out of cards. Students will take blueprints from a casita, pick a building material, apply a ratio to construct a house of cards to scale. The project will help students gain coherence about how the ratio, rate table, coordinate grid, double number line or tape diagrams, and equations support each other. This is primarily a 6th grade lesson, however, I have a suggested adaption to include scale factors for 7th grade usage. Included are color coded anchor charts to address misconceptions, gaps, and aid your ELL students.
