Students read a 2500 word biography (informational text) of Martin Luther King Jr.
The reading is split into two parts. Part I details King's life from his upbringing in Georgia through his imprisonment in Birmingham. It includes a lengthy excerpt from King's "Letter from a Birmingham Jail."
Part II focuses on the March on Washington, King's other protests in the mid-1960s and his legacy in the wake of his assassination.
Each reading is followed by 8 multiple choice text-based questions and one open-ended question. The questions are aligned with common core state standards for reading informational texts grades 6-12.
Teacher answer key is included.
