Description

This 75-page document contains activities and guided questions for students, and a complete teacher's guide with answers and suggestions. The Common Core Ready Study Guide clearly establishes the objectives to: develop strategies for reading challenging texts; analyze Shakespeare's Macbeth; expand on precise word choice; develop central ideas from the play; select text-based evidence; draw connections between central ideas, the author's technique, and text-based evidence; and analyze film adaptations, interpreting the use of film techniques. The guide contains several activities and assessments that build on one another in intensity and analysis, guiding students through the brainstorming and idea development process. Such as the activity for Acts 1-2, developing a central idea about Lady Macbeth with precise word choice. Students start by selecting a revealing quote (text-based evidence) from Acts 1-2 about Lady Macbeth's character that connects to a central idea. Students then brainstorm precise word choice, trying to avoid basic, non-specific terms like "crazy." Students can then participate in a group discussion about the connection between a pre-selected quote (text-based evidence) and Lady Macbeth's characterization, discussing the answers to multiple choice questions together. Students will use the group discussion as way to revise their own brainstormed notes and prepare to write a paragraph (complete with an outline and rubric). Other activities build on this one to sophisticate ideas and central idea statements. Students also have study guide questions (answers in teacher's guide) and a fun film adaptation activity, diving further into analysis of technique. This study guide will have you feeling like a powerful, masterful teacher full of drive and ambition to take the crown!! Ok, got carried away there, but you'll be ready to take on the entire unit and feel confident that your students will learn new skills in reading and writing.
