Students create a question. (For this activity, it is best to keep the question simple.)
Option 1: Students choose a new question each week to research. Teacher provides a guiding topic. (ex: Could align with science or social studies unit.)
Option 2: Students are given a specific research question by the teacher.
Option 3: Students choose any question on any topic. No guiding topic is provided by the teacher.
Students use technology or print resources to answer question.
Students use grade aligned “mustache” note sheet to record their information.
Optional: Teacher can create a creative bulletin or hall way display to share research results! This can be changed weekly, monthly, etc…
Notice the simplicity of the question the student chose. This activity is meant to be an introductory activity to get students acquainted with researching, locating and providing information from sources, and finding relevant information to answer their research questions. I have, however, used this to get the students started on their research papers
