Product Description
This game is aligned to the common core standards! It can be used to review vocabulary standards that are targeted in the second grade curriculum. It targets homonyms, compound words, synonyms, homophones, and idioms that frequently occur in grade 2 texts. Vocabulary targets (excluding idioms and compound words) were chosen with special attention to frequently occurring Tier2 vocabulary words from the second grade curriculum. This game can be used in small group instruction, speech therapy, and literacy centers.

This game includes six game boards. One for homonyms, two for compound words (one where the student is required to define both individual words separately and the new meaning for the words when they are joined to form a compound word and one where the student is required to name another word that could be added to form a compound word), one for synonyms, one for homophones, and one for idioms.

How to play:
Version (1): This version is played with the printed game board(s) and bingo chips. Choose a game board for game play (I.e., homonyms, synonyms, etc.). Place the game board in the middle of the table. Separate the students into two teams. Choose a team to go first. Give each team 15 bingo chips of the same color. The student chooses a spot on the board. For the first turn the student must choose a space at the bottom of the board. After the first turn they may choose any spot as long as there is a chip on the spot below it. Once the student chooses their spot they, or the teacher, will read the word and complete the vocabulary task that is targeted on the game board you have chosen. For example, they would be required to name a synonym for the word on the circle. If they answer correctly they can cover the spot with a chip. The goal of the game is to get four of your game pieces in a row, either vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. The first team to get four of their chips in a row wins!

Version (2): This version is played with an iPad and the Glow Coloring app. Open the downloaded document in iBooks. Choose a game board for game play (I.e., homonyms, compound words, synonyms, etc.). Take a picture of the game board. Open the Glow Coloring app and import the picture of the game board. Separate the students into two teams. Choose a team to go first. Allow each team to choose a stamp on the app to represent their team on the game board. The student chooses a spot on the board. For the first turn the student must choose a space at the bottom of the board. After the first turn they may choose any spot as long as there is a chip on the spot below it. Once the student chooses their spot they, or the teacher, will read the word and complete the vocabulary task that is targeted on the game board you have chosen. For example, they would be required to name a synonym for the word on the circle. If they answer correctly they can cover the spot with the stamp that represents their team.
