Help your students meet Common Core State Standard RL/RI.4 with these differentiated graphic organizers.
3 sets of graphic organizers are included that can be used with any text where you want students to determine the meaning of unknown words using context clues. Use in conjunction with mini-lessons, station teaching, or literacy centers.
Every graphic organizer has 2 pages with learning targets printed on the organizer.
The first organizer can be used in a variety of ways. Use it at the beginning of the year when first introducing the idea of context clues or use it for students that need more support with context clues. The format uses shapes instead of a typical chart to organize information.
The second organizer is more advanced than the first organizer, but asks students to complete the same learning targets on a graphic organizer. This can be used for students that are ready for a more complex organizer or in the middle of the year when students have begun to master the idea of using context clues.
The third organizer can be used with more advanced students or later in the year when you are ready to challenge your students or increase the level of rigor. This organizer takes the concept one step further and asks students to identify the connotative meaning of the context clue. This last step is an additional part of the Common Core Standard.
These organizers can be used in small group or whole group instruction, as part of an independent reading response, in conjunction with nightly reading logs, during literature circles, or during partner or small groups.
