This activity has 24 questions each for 3 levels involving place value. The three levels are:
A Place value through the tens place,
B Place value through the hundreds place, and
C Place value through the thousands place.
Each question has a matching answer card that students can match to find their answers.
Also included are a student recording sheet and an answer key for each level. In addition, there is a reference sheet showing a number in standard form, expanded form, base 10 blocks, written form, and the digits in each place.
Second Grade Common Core Standard NBT 3 specifies that students should read and write numbers to 1,000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form, so this activity provides experiences for your on-level (B) students, as well as below (A) and above level (C) students.
The students can answer each question as a workstation or small group activity. They can also use these activities in a game format. To play, students draw cards and answer the question. If they are correct, they flip a coin to move their piece on the game board – heads, one space, tails, 2 spaces. I did not include game pieces, but I usually use snap cubes in my classroom. Students can check their responses using the answer key.
