This game will help children with identifying sounds and blending. It can be played by individual children, small groups or whole group. It is appropriate for Kindergarten, 1st grade and RTI. It meets the phonological awareness Common Core Standard.
Print and cut out picture cards on cardstock. Glue a craft stick to the back of the picture card. Give child a craft stick to use as a pointer. Ask child to point to the beginning sound, the middle sound and the ending sound.
Example: If there is a picture of a dog with “dog” spelled underneath it, have child point to the d for the beginning sound, o for the middle sound and g for the ending sound. Then have child blend the sounds together to say the word as he/she runs the pointer under the whole word.
