This graphic organizer can be used with any text to help achieve Common Core State Standard RL/RI.1.
The organizer includes 4 learning targets typed right onto the document. Students are asked to cite textual evidence, make an inference, create a conclusion, and defend their conclusion by explaining it.
The organizer also includes a handout that explain what evidence is, what an inference is and how to make one, what a conclusion is and how to make one, and what it means to defend a conclusion and how to do that. Besides the terms, an example is provided.
You could print this out and use it in your class immediately without any prep work based on whatever literature or informational text piece you are using. This is not a random organizer for inferences, but was specifically created to meet the CCSS.
Use this with whole group instruction, small group instruction, partner work, group work, or to formatively assess individual students.
