This packet was created as a tool to help you implement the common core standards into your SECOND GRADE classroom. The graphics are CHEVRON THEMED to go along with your classroom theme. It is also written in kid friendly language, with the actual standard written below for teacher’s reference.
Create a wall display using this packet. Print cut and laminate all posters. Place the large posters on the wall to stay. Then, change out the smaller standard posters as you teach each new standard. I suggest placing Velcro on the large posters and on the backs of the smaller standard posters, so that you can easily change them.
Within the packet you have two choices of what large white posters you want to post on your wall. You can have a large poster for the two main subjects in the common core: “Mathematics” and “Language Arts” or you can hang large posters for each sub-category in the common core: “Operations & Algebra”, “Numbers and Base Ten”, “Measurement & Data”, “Geometry”, “Reading: Literature”, “Reading: Information”, “Reading: Foundations”, “Writing”, “Speaking and Listening”, and “Language”. Use whichever style works best for you.
The standards are written from the Common Core State Standards Initiative which can be found at http://www.corestandards.org/ Copyright 2010. National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and Council of Chief State School Officers. All Rights Reserved.
