The prospect of integrating Common Core Standards into goal and objective writing can be daunting for many education professionals including Speech Language Pathologists. Good goals have historically been developed in consideration of student’s progress in therapy, assessment, and clinical opinion. The addition of Common Core Standards does not change these foci but add an additional element to integrate into sound goal and objective development. This manual does just that.
In this manual you will find:
• Listing of the Common Core Standards
• Tables depicting some of the more common Articulation, Fluency, Pragmatic and Voice deficits that need to be addressed in therapy
• Objectives that relate these skill areas to specific Common Core Standards
• Goal building
Everything in this manual can and should be tailored to your individual student including the difficulty level, accuracies and more. Many times I find that students have spent a year progressing in a goal area that they still need work on in a higher level. All areas have several levels to address skills and Common Core Standards. Difficulty level increases down the table. Following each skill section, there are sample Present Level of Performances (PLOPS) and goals for students at different levels that are broken into objectives that were listed in tables, again increasing in difficulty.
