This is a 33 page interactive flipchart used to teach and assess CCSS 1.OA.7: Understand the meaning of the equal sign and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true or false.
Two slides are an introduction to the equal sign using pictures to demonstrate the meaning of the symbol.
The next two pages have 4 picture equations each where the students drag the words true or false to the box to demonstrate understanding of the concept. These are set to be containers so if the answer is wrong, it will bounce out of the box. This is followed by two more pages set the same way but using numbers and number equations.
The next 4 slides have 8 problems each. An equation is given and the students must decide if the equation is true or false. After dragging the word to the box, they use the select tool to hover over the box where the correct answer will be displayed.
Two more slides are set to be containers consisting of a “True” box and a “False” box. Students drag the equations at the bottom of the page to the correct location. If they are not correct, they will bounce back out.
Three slides contain 4 problems each where students drag the number to correctly complete the equation. Incorrect answers will not stay.
Five slides are different versions of a matching game. Students click to turn over two cards. If the value of the two cards is equal, then they stay uncovered. If they are not equal, then they click again to turn the card back over.
Finally, there is a “Show What You Know” section with ten questions set to be used with the ActivExpressions. The last page provides directions on how to export the assessment results to excel. Of course the flipchart and assessment questions can still be used even if you do not have Expressions.
