The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for 2nd Grade can be quickly printed and used in the classroom.
The CCSS are designed on tabloid-size paper (11” x 17” paper) can be easily printed on any size paper by adjusted the size in your printer settings.
The CCSS are in color, but also look great in grayscale/monochrome printing.
Each standard has its own page.
At the top of each page is the complete standard in smaller print. This standard is for the teacher’s use.
The main section of the page has a summarized version of the standard in “kid-friendlier” terms. The standard is written in a large font that can be easily read from across the room. The standard is not “dumbed down” as the vocabulary used in the standard is something the students will encounter in grades K-6. Teach the students what the more difficult words mean. For example:
Determine:; tell about, identify, find
Central: main, important, big idea
Describe: tell about, identify
The CCSS can easily be displayed on a focus wall. Use a hole punch to punch holes in the same locations on all of the standards and headers. Use straight pins to pin the headers and standards to the wall. Since all of the holes are punched in the same locations, it makes it easy to slip the standards and headers off the straight pins to change the standards to fit your current areas of study.
The CCSS can be easily stored in a paper drawer or a shelf for easy access when needed.
