Want a quick math review with your kids? One with incentive and is brain-based? How about one that matches the common core? This idea came from Brent Vasicek (Scholastic) who gave me his blessing to run with.
Directions for use: The kids begin at their seats with line A and solve the first two problems and immediately get up and come over to you to have them checked. With only two problems you can quickly check them! If they solved them both correctly you would tell them they get to "level up" like in a video game (they would go back to their seat and move down to solve the first two problems in line B. This would continue.) If they miss one or both of the problems you would tell them to "continue" and they move on to solve the rest of the row and then come back to be checked. (Even if they miss any of the last three they will automatically level up in order to keep them moving with a decent pace.
This activity allows the students to be moving with a game-like incentive. The fast-movement is great for their brain and they have to pay close attention to their work too!
