Practice reading critical vocabulary words quickly as sight words, so your students are ready to close read while taking standardized tests. These are nouns and verbs seen in Common Core Standards in grades K-2.
Your students need your help to prepare them for future assessments, and one very important way to do that is to make sure they are able to read and recognize the words. I consider these words the high frequency words of testing.
Copy the pages and insert them into page protectors in a binder, so that you can quickly assess students with a dry-erase marker. Have students read each word quickly, row-by-row, and if they are not able to read the word by sight within 3 seconds tell them the word, mark it, and move on. When they are able to get through the entire page during another time, they can move to the next page.
When students get through a set of pages, they receive a super hero award for completion! Great motivation to keep students to the goal of learning the words.
