“I Can” statements are a great way to make the Common Core State Standards understandable to students. I have revised the Anchor Standards for ELA into statements students in middle school will be able to comprehend.
But achieving these standards is a team effort. No matter how proud a student may be of being able to say “I can,” it feels even better to know the teacher and peers are there to help achieve these shared goals. We are all in this together, so instead of “I Can” statements, my walls feature “We Can” statements.
Each standard with "We Can" statements is attractively displayed as a web with an apple at its "core."
Anything I can do, we can do better.
