Everything you need for linking common core standards with quality literature, writing tools, writing practice and quick assessments.
It’s a whole year’s worth of lessons – one a week!
There is an introduction that explains how these writing activities can be used. They are geared for second, third and fourth graders but can easily be adjusted to fit other grade levels.
This resource includes:
• A list of writing tools
• 37 minilessons
• Special lined paper that can easily be scored
• Minilessons linked to ELA Common Core Standards
There are 37 writing activities revolving around a variety of writing tools. Each lesson uses quality literature books to focus on three writing tools at a time.
Each writing activity in this resource lists the three writing tools for the student to see how and what they are being scored on. Some sample writing tools include grabber beginnings, muscle verbs, etc. The minilesson sheets can be Xeroxed for each student or placed on a projector for the class to refer to while writing.
This is not simply busy work! These are useful, purposeful writing practice activities that can give insight into what students can do with writing pieces. In addition, these activities are helpful for standardized testing preparation. While practicing these in my own third grade classroom, I found that my non-writers enjoyed these activities and lessons because they were interesting, short and to the point. Scoring is easy and fast. Students will be encouraged to focus on writing tools and writing excellent pieces.
