Product Description
Welcome to “Writing Practice to Mastery!” Since you can use this developmental packet as your kinders progress for different narrative writing topics, it is truly “A Year’s Worth of Narrative Writing Practice!”
I can write an narrative piece
in which I draw, dictate or write:
--about a single event or several loosely linked events,
--tell about the events in the order they occurred,
--and provide a reaction to what happened.
No extra resources needed! Everything you need is included in this unit!“
Writing Practice to Mastery!” can be used with individual
students or with your entire class of students to produce or model an narrative paper that meets all of the requirements of Common Core W.K.3. It also includes an Narrative Writing Scoring Guide that includes student reflection on scores and goal-setting for improvement on the next Narrative Writing assignment. The Scoring Guide is recommended for use after your kinders can dictate or write independently. All of these features, used with the following plan, allow you to cover W.K.3, W.K.5, W.K.6, W.K.7 and W.K.8! This packet contains two versions:
Drawing Version: Step 1: Experience Brainstorming
Step 2: Recounting Events in Sequence
Step 3: What an Experience! (Reflection and Reaction)
Dictating/Writing versions: Step 1: Experience Brainstorming Step 2: Recounting Events in Sequence
Step 3: What an Experience! (Reflection and Reaction) Share Your Information With the World!
(Template for putting steps 2, 3 and 4 together.) Suggestions for improvement from peers or guidance from adults happen in this step. Digital publishing (or using the template to publish in the students’ best handwriting) is the final step!
Accompanying drawings may be added separately.
After your kinders are able to dictate or write, try using: Narrative Writing Scoring Guide& Goal for Improvement!
