This mini-unit is great for both meeting Common Core standards and giving students ACT practice. Students will answer both extended response and multiple choice questions about articles and visual media presentations concerning the issue of concussions from football and their link to CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). A review of the four types of ACT distractors (wrong answer choices) is included. In addition, numerous opportunities exist for meeting the Speaking and Listening, the Reading Informational Text, and the Writing CCSS standards. Informative accounts are present as well as a fictional story presented on an episode of “Law and Order”. All worksheets are included as well as teacher notes and directions and links to the articles and media presentations.
Please note: For further material on this topic, see my AIR ELA Practice Unit. Modeled after the AIR ELA test, questions and a writing prompt are included as well as links to NEW articles on the topic of concussions and football.
