This Writing Prompt was created using a text excerpt from Pushing up the Sky.
Because the format of this writing prompt follows the same format as the transitional iLEAP/LEAP/PARCC assessment, it serves as excellent practice for third and fourth grade students.
Students must read the following prompt and write a well-organized composition of at two or more paragraphs.
According to the play you just read, the Snohomish people lived in a village where the sky was too close to the Earth. Because this caused so many problems, they decided to fix the problem by pushing the sky up out of their way. When everyone tried to push separately, the sky did not move. Then Seventh Chief stepped up and said, “we must work together to push up the sky.” After everyone decided to work together, the sky was pushed up and out of their way.
What did the Snohomish people learn when they solved their problem?
Write a well-organized composition of two or more paragraphs explaining what the Snohomish learned when they worked together to solve their problem. Use details from the play to support your explanation.
