This Fourth grade writing prompt presents one article explaining the role "Pony Bob" played in the "Pony Express." The second article states facts related to the "Pony Express. After students read both articles, they are presented with the following prompt:
After reading both texts about the history of the Pony Express, imagine that you are “Pony Bob” for a day. Using details from both texts, write a story describing your adventures as one of the bravest riders in history. Were you able to deliver the mail to the west coast without any conflict from the American Indians? Did anything unexpected happen that made you want to turn around and go back?
Now write a story describing the day you were “Pony Bob.”
