Use this fun partner game to practice or assess your students' ability to find common denominators! For this activity, you will need either a set of real dominoes OR a printed set of paper dominoes (you can find a set of these in my store!).
The "rules" for this activity are as follows:
1) Partner students up.
2) Each partner will pull a domino. Students should draw these dominoes on their recording page. I typically have them make the smaller number the numerator for this particular exercise, though it truly does not matter. Just make sure both partners have drawn them the same way.
3) Students "race" to find the common denominator between their two domino fractions.
4) Once they have found the common denominator, they will convert their fractions.
5) Students compare their answers and determine who got the correct answer first. They will circle "me" if they won the round or "my partner'' if they did not win.
Use this as a math center activity, as a whole group practice game, or as an informal assessment tool!
