My students are forever misusing your and you're; their, there, and they're; too, to, and two; etc. It's enough to drive a teacher crazy! I prepared a fun and engaging way to refresh student's memories on how and when to use each word. I call it Teacher Tag, and the students love it!
I place the students into groups and then "tag" them with a common error. They are now the teachers, and their group is responsible for planning and preparing a lesson to teach their classmates on the correct usage of the words. It is a lot of fun. The students love getting to be on the other side of the teacher's desk, and prepare engaging lessons for their classmates. After all groups have taught their lessons, I resume my role as teacher by giving a common errors quiz. I am impressed at how much the students learn from one another!
- 7 "Teacher Tag" cards, each with a unique group of words that students misuse (ex: to, two, too; me, myself and I), as well as brief instructions on how to proceed
- a 2 page quiz assessing student's ability to correctly use these words.
This activity is truly a lot of fun! Enjoy!
