I treat this as a review of common and proper nouns before introducing prepositions and prepositional phrases. Students know how to find nouns by the upper elementary grades but often make mistakes with idea nouns (freedom, honesty, bravery, etc.) and forget capitalization in proper nouns.
The activities reinforce the difference between common and proper nouns, and students group nouns together to create categories. The activities also require students to compare general nouns (common) to specific nouns (proper).
