This was originally created as an International Baccalaureate unit for a middle school ELA classroom but can be used as an engaging project for middle or high school students in a variety of settings! The kids will love the freedom they have to create the blueprints for their own app and you'll love the expository writing that they produce as they explain how it works.
As they step into the role of new interns at Apple Inc., students are scaffolded through a process of describing the functions of a new app, drafting screen shots and explanations of what their app does, giving and receiving peer feedback, revising, editing, and finally creating an ITunes description for their unique product.
This unit is an extremely engaging way to get students to write in a format they are typically resistant to doing! :)
