WIT is a foldable one page non-verbal visual communication card that a teacher carries or places in an easy access location. The visual aid communicates three simple and important messages to students, 1* Work (It’s time to begin working again), 2* Interrupt (you’re interrupting me, please stop and wait), and 3* Topic Change (you’re changing the topic; please return to the topic). It fits nicely in my back pocket or on the edge of a desk or table.
I employ this simple card numerous times with my little chatter boxes. The visual reminds them of the specific messages and usually results in them returning to task without me saying a word. WIT works especially well in small groups when teaching or discussing and in whole class settings when teacher is maneuvering around the room. I print the visual aid in color on cardstock, laminate it, and the crease it on the internal lines. Two color copies are included so you can print front to back if you prefer. Plus, two black and white copies are included.
