Communication is such an essential part of who we are as human beings. With each passing day, we are reinventing and changing the ways in which we communicate - for better or for worse. Sometimes, we as individuals living in the present, take for granted where the inventions of our past came from, that guided us to where we are today. During this lesson, the children will be engaging in activities that will allow them to explore the history of the famous inventor Johann Gutenberg, and how his invention of the printing press paved the way for how we communicate today. The children will be learning how the printing of newspapers originally worked by creating their very own replication of the printing press, as well as comparing and contrasting newspapers of the past, with the newspapers of today. The children will be able to use the knowledge they gain from this lesson, and apply it to the field trip we will be taking tomorrow to our local newspaper.
