PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Hi Everyone,

Today we would like to tell you about a product that we just developed called, “Open-ended Communication Notebooks for Men and Women.”

We developed these two gender specific documents because we believe that therapy for adult clients who are less verbal due to a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or CVA (stroke) or who have a cognitive decline, should always be functional in nature.

To us, there’s nothing more functional than knowing how to read, write and say your own personal, biographical and family information. This includes the areas of home phone and address, present and past living environments, info on friends and family, medical and present and past information that relates to the person who we are treating in therapy. The nice thing about these open-ended notebooks, are that they can be tailored for each individual to fit these terms.

A communication notebook like these can be used to help improve a a person's orientation to person, place and time and could be an essential compensatory memory aid for them. It can also help them to recall past, present and future information. That is because after the information is practiced by discussing it, and writing it down, it can be later re-read. The act of talking, writing and reading and exercising the whole brain and the repetition of the information will help increase remembrance of the information. In addition, it helps to improve planning of tasks and up-incoming events. That is why we have included a large variety of open-ended daily planners, script pages and 2016 and 2017 calendars.

We would like you to consider that many people with memory loss or aphasia (an acquired communication disorder that impairs a person’s ability to use or understand language), would benefit from the need to write down their own answers in this notebook. Please assist with the writing only when needed. For example, verbally spell only of the adult is “stuck” on how to spell the word, or if their writing is micrographic, illegible or inconsistently accurate. Please increase your writing support if the person has expressive aphasia and he is having great difficulty saying or writing what he or she means. But do keep in mind, that they usually know what they want to say! It will be our job as therapists and caregivers to help to figure out the needed information that should be obtained for reading and talking practice.

Kindly download the preview document to see the content pages fir the men's notebook and slides showing many pages of both the men's and women's notebook.
