This Communities in Canada, Past and Present: Part 1 - Moving From One Community to Another resource is intended to support the 2018 Ontario Social Studies Curriculum for Grade 6. (As of October 5, 2018 this Part 1 resource has been updated to support the revised 2018 Ontario Social Studies Curriculum, with an increased emphasis given to Indigenous content such as treaty issues. This fall the remaining four sections will also be revised, so that buyers can always download the most recent version at any time.)
Students will inquire into the various reasons people move from one community to another in historical and contemporary Canada, using Q-charts to assist them in formulating to guide their investigations.. Complete lessons plans and teacher notes, along with student-friendly text, make this unit an engaging and productive resource. Students will explore the following communities: Winnipeg, Attawapiskat, Early Black Communities, and Europeans in New France.
