Communites in Canada // SETTLERS OF CANADA'S WEST // Canadian History
"Communites in Canada - Settlers of Canada's West" is a 6 page worksheet that will help your students understand why there was an explosion of immigration to western Canada between 1880-1915, and who the immigrant groups were.
Students will learn about the opening of Canada's West to newcomers and the impact of the Canadian Pacific Rail Line on immigration. They will also learn about historic immigrant communities to Canada's West (Dutch Mennonites, Ukrainians, Doukhobors, and Hutterites) and the continued legacy they have in Canada.
A 21 slide powerpoint is included to compliment the lesson, along with a full Lesson Plan.
This is the largest lesson in series to date and is recommended to be broken into at least two parts. There are ten engaging questions and mini-assignments you can use to challenge your students to synthesize their knowledge with applications for today.
